Non-Negotiable: The List Every Woman Needs Before She Dates Again
Share
There's a version of you that used to fold.
You know her. She said "it's fine" when it wasn't. She rearranged her schedule, her standards, and eventually herself, all to make someone comfortable who never once lost sleep over making you uncomfortable. She loved hard, gave everything, and still somehow ended up feeling like she wasn't enough.
I know her because I used to be her too.
But here's what nobody tells you when you're finally done.. done with the situationship, done with the almost-relationship, done with the man who had "potential" but no follow-through, nobody tells you that done is just the beginning. The real work is figuring out who you are when you stop shrinking. And part of that work? Making the list.
Not a wishlist. Not a "he should be tall and employed" checklist that your girls help you write over wine. I'm talking about your Non-Negotiable list; the standards that are not up for debate, not subject to his charm, and not going anywhere no matter how good he smells.
So what goes on the list?
Your non-negotiables aren't about being picky. They're about being clear. There's a difference. Picky is superficial. Clear is self-aware. And a woman who knows herself, who has done the healing work, cried the ugly cry, and come out the other side, she doesn't have a type. She has standards.
Here's what I want you to think about when you sit down to write yours:
1. How do you need to feel in a relationship to thrive? Not survive. Not "it could be worse." Thrive. Do you need consistency? Do you need someone who communicates without shutting down? Do you need peace so deep you can actually sleep at night? Write that down. That's non-negotiable.
2. What did you tolerate before that you will never tolerate again? This one will sting a little. Good. Let it. Those lessons cost you something — your time, your energy, your nervous system. Don't let them be free. Turn every red flag you ignored into a line item on your list.
3. What do you bring to a relationship that deserves to be matched? You are loyal? Intentional? A nurturer? A whole entire Vybe? Then you deserve someone who meets that energy. Not perfectly, nobody's perfect.... but consistently. Effort is non-negotiable.
4. What are your dealbreakers, full stop, no exceptions? This is where you get ruthless. Dishonesty? Dealbreaker. Emotional unavailability? Dealbreaker. Someone who makes you feel small, stupid, or like you're asking for too much by simply existing? Dealbreaker, dealbreaker, dealbreaker. Write it. Mean it. Honor it.
The list only works if you actually use it.
Here's the part women don't talk about enough, we make the list and then we meet someone who checks eight out of ten boxes and we start negotiating. "Well, he's working on communication..." No, sis. The list isn't a scoring rubric. It's a standard. And the moment you start grading on a curve, you've already moved your own boundary.
I'm not saying people can't grow. I'm saying you don't have to wait around and raise them while your own life is on hold.
Your non-negotiables protect your peace. They protect your time. And honestly? They protect your healing. Because every time you go back to something that doesn't meet your standard, you're sending yourself a message, and that message is that you don't quite believe you deserve the thing you wrote down.
You do. I promise you do.
This is why "Non-Negotiable" is more than just a waist bead strand.
When I created the Non-Negotiable strand for The Vybe Collection, it wasn't just about the crystals or the colors. It was about the woman who puts it on and feels something shift. Something that says... I know my worth and I'm not budging. Waist beads have always been a sacred adornment, a way women have marked their bodies as holy, as worthy of attention and intention. Wearing Non-Negotiable is a daily reminder that your standards don't need anyone's approval. They just need you to hold them.
Make the list. Wear the reminder. And don't you dare apologize for either.
Love yourself, protect your energy, and deal with life's BS with grace and gratitude.
